An introduction to dementia care has been developed to afford care staff working in care homes or domiciliary care agencies a greater understanding and awareness of dementia and to see the person behind the illness. The importance of good communication and understanding the behaviour of a person of a person with dementia will also be considered.

Delivering Spiritual Care
This course will provide you with an essential understanding of the contribution spiritual care makes to the person-centred approach and the role staff should play in delivering it. It will also raise and encourage the reality that care homes are communities in which everyone, including staff and residents, need to give care and support to each other. Book your place.

Learning Opportunities


Come to a FREE information event on 26th January 2011 to find out about the Best Practice Facilitator programme, view the course materials, ask any questions and meet the course support team. The next Best Practice Facilitator training is on 24th & 25th February.

We train one of your staff members as a facilitator to deliver this programme to eight staff members in your workplace with our continuous support over six months. Appropriate for staff in day care, care homes and healthcare assistants in hospitals. Accredited by the RCN. Total cost approximately £155 per person for eight staff members and one facilitator.

Please note that Scottish Government funding is available for this course and will be discussed at this event.

Fitness Leader and other meaningful activities for older people


Get the skills and knowledge to develop and facilitate a physical activity programme for people with dementia along with an understanding of a range of activities. Next dates 21st-23rd February & 22nd March.

Our core postgraduate programme in dementia studies offers the opportunity to develop in-depth knowledge on theory, policy and practice. This flexible programme allows students to graduate with a PG cert after one year, a Diploma after the second year or complete the MSc in three years.
